Healesville Hotel

The Healesville Hotel is a simple yet stylish and has an old charming classic vibe. The hotel only have seven restored hotel rooms with complete toileteries, tv, air conditioning, complimentary tea and coffee. The let down was they don't have private bathrooms in any of ther rooms, there are three bathrooms at the end of the hallway. The bathrooms are clean but still it's very inconvenient to go back and ford to the restroom. They suggest you to bring your own bathrobe. The other let down was the noisy neighbourhood at night, the walls are really thin and I managed to hear loud voices, music and cars through out the night. For a light sleeper like me, I only managed to sleep for one or two hours at max.

The Healesville Dining Room rewarded with one chef hat from AGFG (2015). The dining room was dark with dim lighting and fire place. Romantic and cozy. The complimentary pork crackling was beautifully made and a lil garnish help refresh your palette.

For starters we ordered beef tartare, tom's paddock egg and potato chips ($16) and sugar cured buxton trout, beetroot, apple and horseradish ($18). Both surprisingly good, especially the beef tartare. It was refreshing, light, full of flavoured, perfect textures and potato chips complete the dish with just right amount of crunchiness. The trout was beautifully cured and I don't normally like beetroot but this time it was bare able.

For the main we decided to order slow cooked pigs jowl, apple, radicchio and mustards ($26) and corn fed maltose duck breast, carrots, quince and oat crumble ($34). The pigs jowl was crunchy, flavoursome, have the right amount of fat and generous portions. The duck was juicy, cooked perfectly, very tasty, with crunchy oast and all the right garnish.

Desserts was completely over shine by the starters and main. Broken chocolate fondant, chestnuts and blood oranges ($16) and pear & apple crumble, custard and amaretto ($16). Both are good but not as outstanding as the other dishes that night.
